Hotel El Capitan

The Bachelder tile in the lobby, the warm chocolate chip cookies as we checked in, and the available oranges and apples all made us smile!

This is a charming hotel. The restaurant has pretty good food and refreshing margaritas for end of the day relaxation. My room was neat as a pin and very clean with nice amenities. However, it was noisy. My room adjoined another room so I don't know if that's why it was so noisy. The person in the room next to me snored so loudly that it was like he/she was sleeping in the same room with me! There was really nothing I could do about it but I can tell you that it did not make for good sleeping!

This is a very unique property and the staff are more than kind. I’ve never stayed in a place quite like this. The bed is VERY comfortable!

This hotel is charming, unique, clean, quiet. It has nooks for reading a puzzle laid out if you want, sitting areas for visiting, a fireplace, restaurant and bar were very good. I will go out of my way to come this direction every time I come to Texas just to stay here. Wonderful.

The bed/mattress was in need of replacement. Terrible night's sleep after driving 500 miles you expect a comfortable bed and good nights sleep. Will never return. Mentioned bed situation at checkout but no follow up response from management. Slept or attempted to do so in room 227.

everything was excellent the only draw back was the proximity of the hotel to the train tracks a bit noisy at night but that was overlooked by me

Reservation Cancelled -- 1/11/24 - I spoke to Emily as I couldn't find any parking near the hotel and when i called last week to make a reservation with another agent she said I would be able to park in front on the street curbside with no problem but when i arrived today at 3:30pm there was no parking on the street, all taken and I was advised that i could park on the other side of the bldg across the street in a lot, but I refused to park my car with a trailer so far away from the bldg as anyone could detach it and take off with it.. there were no windows facing that way to even view the area to check on it and the winds were blowing at 30 to 40 MPH and I'd have to walk that block to carry in my belongings, I'm Partially handicap so Emily promised she could cancel my stay without a fee, I hope this happens, I found lodgings elsewhere where my car and trailer were welcomed, and I could park right outside my room. I was really looking forward to my stay as I travel back n forth quite a bit and this was going to be my new go-to place but not now.... so disappointed., mainly I wanted a convenient spot where I could stay and dine in without going out. Seemed so convenient especially in inclement weather such as today.... maybe on another trip where I'm not towing a trailer, I'll give it a try since Emily was so helpful... I can't really give it any stars since I didn't stay., so the stars are for Emily who heard the distress in my voice and quickly responded.

The deductions are for a failed drain stopper in the bathroom, and particularly for the restaurant. Service is still terrible. I recommend other places for dinner.

El Capitan is a nicely maintained and run example of how things "once were", with all the charm and quirks that brings. We've stayed there many times and will continue to do so. On the negative side, either serve a nice breakfast or don't serve one at all. The current product is not worth the time to go in the dining room.
