Quiet, Private, Relaxing. Excursions and guides were excellent. Property clearly older and somewhat run down, however the staff was working around the clock to update and keep things clean.

Staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, always ready to help and answer questions. The excursions included as part of our stay were phenomenal; the guides balanced fun activities with education on the local culture and history. The resort itself was peaceful, comfortable, and beautiful. Highly recommend to all!

The staff was really great. The property is outdated, the food was really bland and the room was just okay. It was my husband’s 50th birthday and I was hoping they would do something special for us. It didn’t happen. The room was on the first floor and we couldn’t use the patio because of the overgrown foliage. The room was very, very cold and there was no way to adjust the temperature. Staff was very nice, everything else was blah. Definitely hoped for more.

First trip, we stayed 5 nights. Pros: Property well maintained, beautiful grounds, tranquil. Rooms were nice. Sister property well maintained,easy to access both had decent food. Nice pools. Most staff nice at each.
Cons: Discovered beaches were closed. Locals outside property and other visitors say it’s been closed for two years bc they owed government money, the staff wouldn’t comment and it’s not transparent on their website. One concierge was pushing us constantly to watch a presentation and even called our room one night about 8 pm to ask for the 4th time if we would attend; my husband firmly but respectfully said no and not to bother us again. Toward end of trip saw some mold on food and noticed tea, coffee and alcohol was very watered down. Could rotate menu more. Highly suggest tip as you go with dollar bills (no one ever has change) this way you know tips go to servers that earn it. Tip as you see fit according to service it’s hit and miss. Overall I give it a 3 star rating.

As soon as I arrived the staff did not explain anything about my amenities. They were more preoccupied with throwing my friends out of the property. They cited Covid protocol and safety. I don’t think a fitness instructor and school teacher who were both American citizens. The gestopo showed up with 2 guards to escort my friends away in a cab. This could have been a good experience because the resort was nice. Ps they were staying at another hotel and planned to leave in an hour or so. I had a bottle of champagne but couldn’t share it with my friends. Lastly the front desk asked me where I had been all day as if it was their business in anyway. I had been on an island tour with my friends that ended abruptly thanks to Fatima and her security guards. Thanks but no thanks Fatima. For what I paid I should’ve never been treated so poorly.

My wife and I have been coming pack to Explorean for more than 6 years. We have a warm relationship with the staff. The staff were as friendly as ever this trip, but were restricted in that they had to stay in zones by the supervisors. This actually reduced the service level and was frustrating for the staff. Both pools and the elevators need maintenance. Not having the restaurants on the beach was a disappointment. We will be returning next November again as we like the property and really enjoy the staff.

Love the quiet privacy of the Explorean, the food options, and the service. Facilities are getting a bit tired and need maintenance. But the big negative is that the beach is virtually closed. You can still swim there, but the pier is closed, the two beachside restaurants are closed, and the beachside platforms are not in service. And the dive shop is closed.

Food was great, everybody at the restaurant was friendly, helpful, willing to make everything just right.
Room was very nice and comfortable.
Property was very much run down, the pool floor was missing some pieces, so you could easily cut your feet when walking inside. Pool bed covers looked old with holes in them. Walkways to the rooms were uneven, missing some pieces too.
Conclusion: restaurant and rooms are excellent, property needs a lot of maintenance.

We loved the Explorean. The rooms are spacious and updated, the grounds are well kept. I loved seeing iguanas! The restaurant is fabulous and the servers and bartenders were all so friendly. So were the guys who took us on excursions. It was also wonderful to have access to Fiesta. We were able to go over there for nightly shows and have more choices for restaurants. We loved the breakfast baskets outside the door every day and drinking hot coffee on our balcony!
The ONLY thing that wasn’t perfect (but we used every day anyway!) was the pool. While beautiful, once you get in the pool you’ll notice missing and loose tiles posing safety hazards. We could have gone to Fiesta’s pool, but we loved the quiet tranquility and beauty of the Explorean’s.
We went for a girls trip and loved it. Already planning a trip back with my husband!
